Kinja'd!!!

So I got the oil needed to change out on my Triumph (and some chain lube), and the only filter that the parts store had was a Fram.

Shit.

I got home, and my cap wrench fits the OEM filter correctly. Fine, but what about the Fram?

Nope. The flutes spin in the cap. WTF?

Damn it. Now I have to find either the OEM filter (stop by the friendly Triumph dealer), or find some place that has another aftermarket filter which fits correctly.

At least I didn't start draining the oil out *just yet*

I'm confused at what I'm looking at in this picture.

These are the insides of oil filters. Fram tends to use cardboard end caps, and hence gets a lot of flack about it.

Oh, all the caps are painted black.

Some fairly in-depth comparison of brands, with a focus on internal construction. Learn ya some.

I like how the only ones he doesn't recommend are the fram and the ones with the same guts as fram. Looks like it Purolator for me

The answer is Wix or better, and an adjustable strap wrench.

I have a similar problem with Harley stuff. I use Amsoil filters and they fit an end cap remover, like most others. HD filters are a bit smaller and I have to use a strap wrench on them. (I do oil changes for several friends).

Yes, it likely is. I'm going to have to stop at a few parts stores to see if I can find a Wix, or something better (Some folks seem to have good luck with Purolator PureOne filters)

The end caps he is referring to are the caps directly attached to the filter media. If you look at them they all have silver colored metal end caps that go a short distance up the sides of the filter media. All of them except the Fram on the far right that has flat cardboard end caps on the filter media.

I meant the metal can that the filters come in are painted black in that picture.

Don't know where you are, but NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix according to my NAPA store.

Hmm...I just might be swinging by the NAPA on the way home. I did bring the cap wrench. For Science.

I was told the triumph filters are made by knn and gorged. My friend who is a total triumph nerd said purulators are the preferred brand. On my bike (02 daytona 955i) there are 2 option filters, I believe one is for a civic? Or something that is bigger.

I stabbed the filter. Then got my 12 inch 3/8" extension and used it to pry enough to get it to undo itself.

Also, doesn't Wix make the NAPA Gold filters?
